A direct quote from BARKs very best, Shelby Mason.

Shelby and her late English Bulldog, Timmy! Timmy was well-loved and is in our thoughts daily at BARK. ❤️

Shelby is our Senior Community and Engagement Coordinator, she joined the BARK team in August of 2016 and has made work fun here every day since!

What do you love about being a BARK employee and/or your role at BARK?

When something needs to be improved, a BARK employee can bring attention to the matter and it is solved very quickly. Whether it’s needing gender-inclusive bathrooms or realizing the importance of making an impact in our community. We do these things with little barriers. The difference is stark when I think about the monster companies I worked for in the past. All I wished was for [a previous company I worked at] to recycle and I’ll never forget that impending feeling of being a low, voiceless employee in a sea of thousands of others just like myself…Working for a company so large, the smallest change you wish to see is inconceivable. Not at BARK. As a member of the People Team, I can be the change I wish to see and tangibly make BARK a supportive, inclusive, and great place to work alongside my amazing coworkers. And we recycle too ;)

How does your role impact BARK’s mission of “make all dogs happy”?

A happy human = a happy dog. My team takes care of our people so they can show up in all areas of life as their best selves. We not only support the person who shows up to work at 9 am, but also the diverse employee who is navigating emotions during a racial violence crisis, the employee who just transitioned to parenthood/caregiving or the recent graduate who hopes to build a better life by starting at BARK. We are people-first and look at employee happiness through a holistic lens. A person with a harmonious work-life can come home from a day at work and give their best self to their dog for the rest of the night. It’s what our dogs deserve!
